On Saturday 24 October 2026, guides from IVN Westerveld will take visitors on a special evening walk through one of the darkest and quietest nature reserves in the Netherlands. Along the way, you’ll discover how nature changes as the sun sets and enjoy the silence, the starry sky and the mysterious sounds of the night. ‘The Night of the Night’ is a national campaign that raises awareness of the need to reduce light pollution and protect nocturnal wildlife. The Dwingelderveld is a unique location for this, thanks to its vast, dark countryside and stunning starry skies.

Get into the winter spirit at the Havelte Christmas Market, a cosy and atmospheric market in the heart of Drenthe. Around the festive season, Havelte transforms into a cosy winter village where visitors can enjoy dozens of stalls selling Christmas decorations, handmade gifts, local produce and delicious winter treats.
